We were ecstatic when contacted by Spectaculous to work on their premier music video for their song “Tempo”.
We were tasked with working with their marketing group and creating something in line with their brand identity.
What we came up with is a video utilizing a UPA style, heavy on the geometric shapes and lines. We used a limited color palette and simple textures.
The style and feel were inspired by “The Nanny” opening theme song sequence and shows like “Johnny Bravo”.
Our color script was simple. We start off with a grayscale environment and characters that gradually become more colorful throughout the video.
The video revolved heavily around LGBT themes with characters becoming better, happier, “gay-er” versions of themselves.
When aliens crash land in a suburban backyard, they discover their new neighborhood is grey and miserable. They offer one neighbor some of their patented "glitter juice," transforming him into a gayer, happier version of himself!
A "Mr. Crocker" type tries desperately to stop their business. Crocker gets trampled by a desperate crowd of miserables, as he's in their way. He sneaks into the aliens' home and tries to break their juice machine, only for it to repair itself! He even tries to charge directly at the aliens, but he's quickly stopped with an anti-gravity ray. Falling back down to earth, Crocker takes a defeated look around at his happy, now-eclectic neighborhood. In the end, he surrenders to the aliens as well!
